ELIGIBILITY FOR ENTRY
Limca Book of Records catalogues achievements of Indians in diverse fields including firsts, inventions, discoveries, honours & awards received at home or abroad, in all fields of human endeavour. Anyone who has done something unique may inform us.
GUIDELINES
Accepted and standard norms and rules should be adhered to while setting national and world records.
- The onus of proving a record is on the claimant. The claim, signed by the claimant, should be backed by adequate and satisfactory documentation without which it will not be accepted.
- Although we accept online applications, the claimant should, as part of the verification process, submit hard copies of all supporting documents including at least two authentication letters, photographs (or CD containing still photos), contact details like address with PIN CODE and telephone numbers etc along with a covering letter, without which the claim will not be considered for entry.
- All CDs sent to LBR should have the record claimant’s name and the record category written clearly on it. All supporting documents like press clippings, audio/ video tapes, CDs and photographs becomes the property of the publishers and will NOT be returned.
- It is not necessary for Limca Book of Records personnel to be present at all record-making attempts but proper authentication must be ensured. Authentication could be by a responsible person like the principal of a school or college, a gazetted officer or someone of that calibre. Records that come without requisite authentication will be summarily rejected.
- Potential record-breakers should inform Limca Book of Records at least a month before the attempt to avoid disqualification on technicalities. While breaking an existing record follow rules already established.
- Records should be absolute and not technical offsh oots. For example, if it is a typing record, it is assumed to be normal typing. But one-finger or two-finger typing will not be registered as separate records. Records have to be quantifiable, comparable and measurable.
- While new categories are accepted, these will have to be of high interest value. Even if no record exists, a two-hour marathon for guitar-playing will not be accepted.
- For distance records only basic types of vehicles are recognised — motorcycle, scooter, moped and/ or car. There are queries on the inclusion of records completed on various categories of vehicles like 100, 200 cc motorcycles etc. We make no distinction between them. For measurability, distance against time is the criterion. Random cross-country motoring records will not qualify. Those who wish to set distance records in cycling or any event must get a clearance from us for inclusion.
MARATHON/ ENDURANCE EVENTS A detailed log book must be maintained with entries in chronological order which must be witnessed and authenticated by recognised/ established/ reputed institutions or individuals. A sample sheet is available with us and will be given on request.
Marathon events are being phased out. Emphasis will shift to events that highlight special skills.
Special note on rest breaks
Endurance endeavours come under five categories.
Marathon: A ten-minute break after every completed hour is allowed for rest. These breaks may be accumulated (i.e. after 3 hours, a 30-minute break may be taken) but not added to the tally. The log book must clearly indicate the rest breaks.
Virtual non-stop: Minimal breaks permitted for medical/ toilet purposes but no rest breaks. Breaks to be noted in log book.
Continuous: Performed on a rotating or relay basis.
Skill/ Endurance: Breaks permitted as and when necessary.
Absolute non-stop: No breaks.
All adventure/ feats/ stunts/ sports etc require prior written approval from concerned authorities.
CHILDREN’S RECORDS
Records by minors are not accepted, unless they are competitive in the general categories or are exceptionally impressive. For instance, children memorising entire classical texts like Ashtadhyayi or the Gita will be considered. However, memorising capitals, rivers, recognising car models, names etc will NOT be considered. Records that are against the law (for e.g. driving at ages not qualified for a license) or those that require excessive physical exertion (like a marathon or climbing high mountains) detrimental to a minor’s health will not be accepted. Permission must first be taken from Limca Book of Records for what parents consider exceptional cases.
Records jeopardising individual or public safety are not encouraged. For potentially dangerous records, the claimant MUST send a disclaimer that clarifies that the publishers, editor and/ or staff of Limca Book of Records will not be held responsible for any physical or material damage incurred by the claimant.
Not every claim by a woman is eligible for 'First woman to...'
GENERAL OBSERVATIONS Limca Book of Records strives to be completely authentic. it sometimes happens that an earlier record may come to light after the book is released. In such cases corrections/ updates will be carried out only in the next edition. Records that are ‘firsts’ are not entitled to perpetuity and can be dropped without any prior intimation. For reasons of space or any other reasons whatsoever, a confirmed entry may be dropped. Editors may inform the claimant of the change in status but are not bound to do so.
Record holders are not entitled to any prize money, gift/s or free copies of Limca Book of Records. They may, however, avail the 25% discount on the cover price.
If record holders do not receive their certificate two months after the release of the book, contact Limca Book of Records office.
The Editor reserves the right to decide the inclusion of any records. Decisions on all such matters are final.
A NOTE FOR PAST, PRESENT & POTENTIAL RECORD HOLDERS
The name Limca and the Limca logo are registered trademarks of The Coca-Cola Company, USA and should not be used for publicity when a record is being attempted or after the claim has been accepted, without the prior permission of the publisher.
When records are being attempted, it is not obligatory for the publishers to provide invigilators. However, where possible they may do so. All attempts at breaking old records and setting new ones are undertaken entirely at the risk of the claimant. Neither the Publisher, the Editor or staff of Limca Book of Records can be held responsible by the (potential) record maker or third party for any liability that may arise out of such an attempt.
We reserve the right to decide what chapters, sections, categories and records to publish or delete in future editions. We will not consider potentially dangerous record attempts by minors. Nor will we consider any attempt that violates a law, such as a child driving a scooter or car (the law says 18 years).
The Editor is under no obligation to inform record holders when a record is being dropped. Such decisions are the sole prerogative of the Editor in the larger continuing interest of the book.
In all matters pertaining to Limca Book of Records, the Editor’s decision is final.
