First temple structure rotation

TDBD Engg Works Pvt Ltd, Yamuna Nagar, Haryana successfully carried out the task of moving and rotating the 45-year-old Mariamman Temple at Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Tamil Nadu in 2014-15. The 1,300 sq ft structure weighing 250 tonnes was first moved 73 ft backward and then rotated by 30 degrees to make it face the east. Previously its entrance was facing southeast. The structure was moved inch by inch to the new site with the help of 300 screw jacks and 250 rollers. The TDBD engineers together with a team of 13 workers completed the task in over 3 months (including 26 days for rotating alone) from Nov 18, 2014 to Feb 28, 2015. It was done in view of the National Highway 68 widening project.
