First digital bank on mobile phone

ICICI Bank launched Pockets, a unique ‘digital-only bank’ with a mobile first interface on Feb 10, 2015. Not limited to the bank’s customers, the facility allows any individual to download and instantly activate an e-wallet – a virtual place to store money – and add funds from any savings bank account or debit card and start transactions immediately or whenever needed. It enables users to instantly send or request money to/from any e-mail ID, mobile number, friends on Facebook and bank account. Mumbai-based ICICI Bank, the largest private sector bank in the country with a network of 3,850 branches and 12,091 ATMs (as of Dec 31, 2014) also introduced a number of technology-led innovative services in the recent past, including the country’s first contactless debit and credit cards and ‘icicibankpay’, a service for sending money over Twitter.
