FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK
Momentous times! Delhi turned 100 in December 2011, marking the century with a plethora of Delhi-centric events specially book fairs and exhibitions. This edition of Limca Book of Records (LBR) too has devoted 10 pages to Delhi as a tribute.
The 2012 edition, we have Music as the theme and 10 eminent people from singers to instrumentalists, lyricists to composers have been chosen for the People of the Year (POY) awards. The POY award which has evolved from the first award in 1992 to the 2012 edition is a keenly anticipated recognition in the country today. Normally well-known people with outstanding accomplishments in their respective fields are chosen for this but sometimes we also get a few unknown, unsung persons whose work is mind-blowing.
The Education chapter has been dropped from this edition. There is a special reason why. The chapter had become almost a degree conglomerate, featuring only updates of earlier edition. I know many potential record holders will be disappointed.
Although LBR is always well received by readers, on our part, we know lacunas exist which need to be rectified. In the favourite chapter, The Human Story, for instance, we get very few entries under the Human Being section which has records like tallest man/ woman, longest hair, longest moustache/ beard, longest hands etc. As it is very difficult for us to source such information, can you help us to search for unusual and off-beat stories?
Finally, a word to potential record makers – our life will be easier if you follow our guidelines. Documents submitted as part of the verification process should have at least two authentication letters. Without that we may not consider it at all. The CDs should have the person’s name and the record written on it. Besides video recordings, we also need still photos.
Time to bid adieu to the last year nostalgia… and start new beginnings, look at fresh ideas and get a new perspective…
Happy reading!
