FOREWORD
MUSIC, it is said is a reflection of the soul of a country.
The 23rd edition of Limca Book of Records is a Music Special. In the wave of success that the pioneering Coke Studio@MTV brought to the nation, we only deemed it appropriate that this year’s edition of Limca book of Records be dedicated to one of the overriding passions of mankind.
And in keeping with that musical spirit, all the ten People of the Year this year are from the field of music. Stalwarts, internationally recognised, creating music that stirs the soul.
Coke Studio@MTV, which first aired on June 17, 2011 on MTV, saw the extraordinary intertwining of classical musicians with folk musicians, ranging in their extraordinary repertoire from traditional eastern, modern western to regionally inspired music. More than 50 musical artistes had music-lovers enthralled through its ten week duration. The musical magic of versatile and talented artistes like Shaan, Shafqat Amanat Ali, Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan, KK, Hariharan, Kailash Kher, Richa Sharma and Bombay Jayshri along with folks legends like Khogen Da, Wadali Brothers, Rashid Khan and Sabri Brothers were interspersed with upcoming talent like Advaita, Shruthi Pathak, ChinnaPonnu, Harshdeep and many more. Musician Leslie Lewis was the music director of Coke Studio@MTV.
The Limca Book of Records Quiz 2011, a property that takes forward the Limca Book of Records credo of bringing out the best in India, grew even bigger in 2011. It was conducted in 3,800 schools across 80 cities. Delhi Public School, Kolkata won the National Championship Finals in a truly nail-biting finish, beating Sherwood College, Nainital and New Era Public School, New Delhi on December 13, 2011. Conducted by the inimitable Derek O’ Brien, the Limca Book of Records Quiz is a title that every school now yearns for.
Music, like knowledge, only gets better when shared. It holds true for Coke Studio@MTV and the book of knowledge that you hold in your hand. Enjoy!
